Winter Advisory
Heading into the weekend, a winter advisory was issued. This was our first major winter storm since moving to Kansas City. In comparison to Maine, the 4 to 6 inches of snow does not seem very intimidating. But like Maine, the peaceful nature of these storms, the dampened sound and gentle snowfall, makes this a pleasant way to spend a weekend. Click on the image for a larger view.

Remnants of volcanoes dot the landscape in the Four Corners area of the US southwest. Click on the image for a larger view.
Scales of Time
Hundreds of millions of years were needed for the Colorado plateau to accumulate its material under an ocean. Hundreds of million more were needed to expose it to the atmosphere, when erosion would carve canyons and spires into its surface. Plants and animals would evolve over this time, adapting or dying out with the changing conditions. Humans are the latest inhabitants in this history. Click on the image for a larger view
